Some foods have specific therapeutic effects on the body, by consuming these foods, a person can maintain their overall health and well-being. Unfortunately, western diets are high in processed foods and low in nutritious whole foods like fresh organic produce. Such deficiencies can substantially increase the risk of disease.

Food is an essential staple in our practice. We create a personalized food-medicine plan for each unique individual.

Every day, all day, our bodies work so hard to take out the trash, from the normal processes our bodies naturally do to keep us alive, or from the extra burdens of environmental or chemical exposures (air, food, water, household products, medications, internal waste products, etc.). This is no easy task! We can help our bodies out by supporting daily detox in the choices we make, especially with regard to the foods we eat. There are several ways to do this. One is to purchase organic produce, meat, and eggs when we are able to do so. Another is through the food choices we make: by choosing unprocessed whole foods, low in sugar and high in colorful plant foods.

Cruciferous vegetables are high in fiber, vitamins, minerals (especially sulfur), and phytochemicals that support detox and estrogen metabolism. Eat them raw, steamed, or lightly cooked for maximum benefit.

Alliums (onion family) are rich in sulfur, fiber, and other nutrients. They are antimicrobial, help regulate blood sugar and blood pressure, and protect against cancer. Let raw garlic sit for 10 minutes after chopping to activate beneficial compounds like allicin.

By incorporating these nutrient-rich foods, we can enhance the body’s natural detox processes for better health.

Pre-Cleanse Preparation Guide

To prepare for a successful cleanse, it’s important to start weaning off certain foods and drinks one week prior. Follow these guidelines to ease your body into the cleanse:

*Eliminate Alcohol, Sugars, and Processed Foods:

*Avoid all forms of alcohol and added sugars. Use only natural sweeteners like Stevia or Xylitol.

*Steer clear of processed foods, especially those that come in a box or bag and contain artificial colorings or flavorings.

*Cut Out Gluten-Containing Grains:

*Avoid grains such as wheat, rye, barley, spelt, and kamut in any form.

*Avoid Caffeine:

*Refrain from drinking black, green, or white teas, coffee, and any caffeinated drinks like soda.

*Eliminate Animal Products:

*Remove all animal-derived foods, including eggs, dairy, and meat (pork, lamb, poultry, fish, and wild game).
